WA3% Seattle Homeless Community Outreach

Washington Three Percent went out yesterday to hand out warm clothing to Seattle’s homeless following their Liberty or Death Rally Against Media Bias last weekend.  A group of about 30 members including men, women and children showed up with bags full of hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, coats, sweaters, socks and other items.  Despite the typical Seattle rain everyone was in great spirits and ready to hit the streets with their wagons full of supplies.

After handing out a sleeping bag to one homeless gentleman, who directed the group to where they should go, the group, led by state leader Matt Marshall, found themselves on the corner of Second and Washington where they set up a make shift distribution center.   Soon there were many gathered to get much needed warm clothing and gear. I spoke to one of the recipients who told me “It is so nice that people out there still care about us, my family doesn’t even care, I don’t want to be here, I have tried to get help but it is hard to find you know?  I will work, but (he looked down at himself) who is going to hire me looking like this?  The state doesn’t help.  God Bless each and every one of you that did this.”  He declined to be on video or have his picture taken.  This man who wants help and is willing to work, who his family turned their back on…he is a veteran.  That is why his family turned their back as well.  He can’t be much older than me.

The kids handed out candy canes to bring some Christmas cheer to these people that all have different backgrounds and stories and with each one came a thank you and a smile from both the giver and receiver.

There was a security presence, but they even had a much more relaxed posture than at past events, because despite Matt Marshall inviting the counter protesters from last weekend to come out and find some common ground with WA3% and reach out to the community with them, none of them showed up.  Maybe it was too cold, or maybe, just maybe, showing up would have been admitting that they are in fact wrong about who these people are.  They aren’t fascists, nazis, racist, or bigots who hate women…but in fact are good hearted God fearing people who care about their fellow man and their country.  Who care about everyone’s rights.

Regardless of whether you love or hate them, what your beliefs, status in life, color of skin, religious beliefs and yes political stance might be…WA3% is out there fighting to preserve what liberty we have left and to get the liberty we have let slip away back, for all of us, and they are giving back to the community along the way.

It is so refreshing to hear good news about people who give us hope. I especially like that it’s not biased. Intentions to unite not divide. I see all races in that group, which is a good indication that they are not racist or nazis. I would have liked to hear more interviews from the recepients.

    • Lurri,
Your comment his wonderful and the feedback on interviews is noted. I will definitely try to do that at the next outreach event. It was a bit chaotic and it was tough to know which recipients were up to being interviewed. The one I got was by chance, but I will try a bit harder next time and hone my approach. God Bless and thank you again.
